Madeline Levine, a psychologist who counsels troubled teens from affluent families (she practices in Marin County, California) explores such issues as social isolation, parental over-indulgence and under-involvement, and the delusion that wealth causes happiness. Levine concludes that materialism often distracts people from the adolescent struggles that produce thoughtful, grounded adults. She offers pragmatic advice which focuses on discipline, accountability and limit setting.
